The Keast Shield for 2018 was won by Western Australia by just one-point from South Australia at the Royal Adelaide Show recently.

There were three National Young Judges Championship winners from WA; Beef, Merino Fleece and Dairy and runner-up in the National Rural Ambassador Competition.

Patrick Keast and family have sponsored the Shield since it was first presented in 2000 for the National Young Judges Championships and Rural Ambassador Competition. The Hosting State or Territory maintains a record of placings at the National Finals and the jurisdiction that gains the most points receives The Keast Shield.

Patrick Richard Keast (OAM 2014) who died in September 2014, had been a very strong supporter of youth in agriculture and extremely passionate about agriculture. He joined the RASNSW in 1976, was elected to the Council in 2000 and was on the Board from 2009 to 2012. Patrick served on the cattle, sheep, veterinary, show precinct layout and youth committees and prior to his death chairman of judging.

Patrick Keast was Vice president of ASC of NSW from 1995 to 2001 and was the President from 2001 to 2004. He was also a Councillor and Member from 1988 to 2014 and was honoured in 2014 with a life membership of the ASC of NSW in recognition of his lengthy commitment. He was a Committee Member of FCAS from 1995 to 2004.
