Do you know of an agricultural show volunteer who goes above and beyond? If so, the Queensland Ag Shows Next Generation Committee wants to hear pronto as they have put out the call nominations for the 2020 Queensland Shows Awards.

The committee wants to recognise Ag show volunteers who consistently demonstrate commitment to innovation and excellence.

A committee spokesperson said the awards were the right vehicle to acknowledge the contribution of show societies and their events as well as “the grassroots people” whose efforts “embody the values of the agricultural show movement”.

Winners will be announced at the Queensland Ag Shows Gala Dinner in Rockhampton on March 14 in conjunction with the 2020 Queensland Ag Shows AGM.

Awards categories include Outstanding individual contribution, Emerging leader and Best innovation in a local event.

Next Generation president Brianna Hockey said the awards encouraged teams and individuals to innovate and maintain their commitment to achieving excellence.

“With more than 580 agricultural shows held across Australia each year, the movement boasts the largest volunteer base in the country and a combined annual economic value in excess of $965 million,” she said.

“The awards are a superb opportunity for the Queensland show movement to come together and celebrate the hard work and creativity of our peers.”
