Our Program and Development Lead recently travelled to Darwin to attend the Northern Territory Show Council (NTSC) Workshop, Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Ordinary Meeting, held on Saturday 7 March 2026 at the Darwin Trailer Boat Club.
The full-day event brought together show council representatives, educators and industry stakeholders from across the Northern Territory to discuss governance, strategic direction and the future development of agricultural show competitions.
Proceedings commenced with an official welcome and the NTSC AGM, followed by a Strategic Plan Review for 2026–2029, providing an important opportunity to reflect on progress and align priorities for the coming years. These sessions highlighted the ongoing commitment of the NT Show Council to strengthening governance, improving collaboration and ensuring the sustainability of shows throughout the Territory.
A key feature of the day was the Competitions Discussion Session, which focused on local, state and national competition pathways. Topics included Beef Cattle Judging and Parading, Rural Ambassador programs, and the Young Farmers Challenge, with valuable contributions from education and industry representatives. This session facilitated robust discussion around participation, consistency and opportunities to better support young people engaging with agricultural shows and competitions.
The workshop also provided an opportunity to connect with representatives from the Royal Agricultural Society of the Northern Territory, Taminmin College, Charles Darwin University Rural Campus, and other regional stakeholders. These conversations reinforced the importance of collaboration between education providers, industry and show organisations to strengthen skills development and participation across the sector.
Following a networking lunch, the afternoon continued with the NTSC Ordinary Meeting and additional open discussion time, ensuring attendees could raise emerging issues and share insights from their respective regions. The day concluded with an informal networking session, allowing further relationship-building and information sharing.
Attendance at the NTSC Workshop and AGM was a valuable opportunity to contribute to national competition discussions, strengthen partnerships in the Northern Territory, and gain insights that will support the continued development of our programs and initiatives across Australia.
