In Tasmania a 15 year old recently helped to judge the annual Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards, which are conducted by the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania.
Young Tasmanian beekeeping enthusiast Patrick Napper, from Sandford, near Hobart, is a member of Tasmanian Junior Beekeepers.
Not only did Patrick judge in the Honey section of the Awards, but he has also been selected to join two other young Australians in the Australian team which will compete in Northern Ireland in July in the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers (IMYB).
This is the world’s largest gathering dedicated to young people with a passion for beekeeping. IMYB is designed to inspire the next generation of beekeepers, encourage cross-cultural understanding, and nurture global awareness of the vital role bees play in our ecosystems.
From May to November each year, judging occurs in many different categories in the Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards. Now into their 31st year, the Fine Food Awards offer food producers of all sizes from all over Australia the opportunity to showcase their finest products and gain recognition for their commitment to excellence.
The Awards this year have attracted some 18 major sponsors.
