Cody Jones has had an incredible year in the SA Country Shows State Championships.
The wins started in July when Cody competed in the SA Young Rural Ambassador Award State Finals. Representing Clare Show and the Northern Agricultural Shows Association Cody attended the SA Country Shows Symposium and Dinner and was awarded the SA State Young Rural Ambassador Award title.
As part of his prize for winning the Young Rural Ambassador Award, Cody attended the Royal Adelaide Show with the Rural Ambassador Award State Finalists. Cody is passionate about young judge competitions and whilst at the Show he competed in four Young Judges State Championships.
In the Poultry Young Judges competitors judged Modern Game Bantams, Australian Langshans and Indian Runner Ducks. It was in the Poultry Pavilion that Cody won his first State Championship of 2022. Cody went on to compete in the Meat Sheep Breeds Young Judges where he judged Border Leicesters and Poll Dorsets. This would be the second time Cody won the Meat Sheep Breed Young Judges State Champions after winning the State Finals in 2021.
Next up was SA’s biggest young judging day, the Merino Fleece and Merino Sheep Young Judges, with over 90 competitors in each competition. It was a long day in the Sheep Pavilion but well worth the time for Cody who went on to win both competitions. This is the second time Cody has won the Merino Sheep Young Judges, he previously won in 2018.
Cody has not only smashed SAs record, but also the national record, of the most state champion wins in a single year, he will go on to represent SA and compete in the ASA National Finals in Launceston in October 2023. We look forward to working with Cody over the next 12 months to give him opportunities to hone his skills.
