21 year old Demi is the Tasmania finalist at the 2021 Agricultural Shows Australia National Young Judges finals held at the Royal Queensland Show. Demi hails from Sheffield in Tasmania, a small farming community in the northwest.

I’ve been involved in local shows all of my life, because I grew up around farming and have long competed in the Tasmania show circuit. I have also competed at Royal Adelaide in the 2017 judging nationals, have attended Melbourne Royal with Roscrea Speckle Park stud, and have been to the Ekka in 2015 with the Sheffield School show team.

I work at Simplot and in ten years time hopefully I will have some stud cattle of my own.

I started showing when I was 10, through a friends stud and then joined the school handling team. I’ve always loved animals big and small and fell in love with showing. Good friends, Dean and Diane Way, were the first stud I lead for (Springpark Angus) and I then moved on to leading for Badger View Limousins and have been with them for around nine years.

My favourite show in Australia is Sydney Royal because of the atmosphere. My greatest success so far would have to be winning the state finals with a heifer who was very hard to break in and had me close to tears most times I lead her (it was all worth it in the end). Another great moment was leading supreme exhibit at Royal Hobart show, competing her against her full brother for supreme.

My most embarrassing show experience was probably all the times as a kid when I would go into the ring with my mole skins rolled up and had to get mum to come in and unroll them.

Agricultural Shows Australia wishes Demi all the best at the Ekka.
