A new children’s competition has been created to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Deniliquin Show.

The annual event will be held from March 6 to 8 next year.

Pavilion Ladies’ Committee publicity officer Bronwyn Bathgate said school groups or individual children were invited to build a ‘birthday person’.

Similar to a scarecrow, it should measure 1.5 m to 1.8 m tall and be affixed to a garden stake, and be dressed for a party.

You can work on your ‘birthday person’ right up until just before the show, with entries to be delivered to the show pavilion between 9 am and 4.30 pm on March 4, or before 9.30 am on March 5.

Prizes in both the group and individual categories are the same, with $50 for first place, $30 for second and $10 for third.

Mrs Bathgate said the show’s anniversary would also be celebrated in other ways during the event.

She said 140 years would be marked by historical displays around the pavilion, including in the photography section.

“Cameras from all eras plus special photos will be on display.”

Show schedules detailing all competition categories are expected to be available soon.
