Queensland’s iconic Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) presented by Bank of Queensland (BOQ) returns from Saturday 8 to Sunday 16 August 2026 and will celebrate an extraordinary milestone: 150 years of bringing the country and city together through agriculture, community, and tradition.

Since its first show in 1876, the Ekka has grown from a celebration of livestock, produce, and rural innovation into one of Australia’s most recognised and beloved agricultural and community events.

At its heart, the Ekka remains true to the values shared by agricultural shows across the nation: celebrating the people, industries, and communities that underpin regional Australia.

Around 400,000 people from rural towns and cities across Queensland — and beyond —are expected to attend this year’s Ekka to celebrate its remarkable 150th anniversary.

This anniversary is more than a celebration of one show’s history. It is an opportunity to recognise the collective contribution of agricultural shows throughout Australia.

From small community shows in remote and regional towns to large Royal events in each state, agricultural shows continue to provide a vital platform for education, competition, connection, and the promotion of excellence in agriculture.

This year’s Ekka honours that rich legacy while embracing the future, delivering a program that is accessible, engaging and value driven.

The 150th Ekka promises to be a landmark occasion, featuring special commemorative events, historical displays, and opportunities to celebrate the people and organisations that have contributed to its success over the past century and a half.

Competitions – from stud beef, woodchopping, and showjumping to dogs, cats, and cookery – will reward excellence and set benchmarks across livestock and produce, while strengthening the connection between urban and rural communities.

Vibrant day and nighttime entertainment programs will delight visitors of all ages with thrilling international acts, family-friendly shows, heart-racing action, and much-loved fireworks and arena performances.

As part of the 150th celebrations, this year’s Ekka will also feature a strong focus on interactive and educational experiences, highlighting industries and innovations shaping the future of Australian agriculture.

The Ekka, like many agricultural shows across Australia, is built on community spirit, powered by volunteers, and dedicated to celebrating the best of our community, primary industries, and regions.

On August 8th as the gates open, the 150th Ekka will celebrate the past, champion the present and inspire the future of Australia’s agricultural show movement.
