Agricultural shows across Australia may differ in size, history and focus, but many face similar pressures — increasing compliance requirements, stretched volunteer capacity, funding challenges and the ongoing need to stay relevant for future generations.
The ASA Strategic Plan 2026–2028 sets a clear direction for the next three years, informed by extensive input from show societies, state bodies, emerging leaders and sector stakeholders nationwide. This plan outlines ASA’s commitment to supporting a strong, sustainable and connected show movement.
Key Priorities for 2026–2028
1. A stronger national voice
ASA will elevate national advocacy through unified messaging and the progression of a comprehensive National Economic Impact Study to strengthen the case for continued investment in agricultural shows.
2. Practical, usable support for shows
The plan prioritises the development of governance tools, templates and resources that empower committees to operate confidently, efficiently and in line with modern expectations.
3. Investment in youth and leadership
ASA will continue to deliver high‑quality National Championships that celebrate the skills of young competitors and showcase the next generation of agricultural leaders. New initiatives will also support leadership development and recognise the volunteers who sustain the movement.
4. Better connection, less duplication
A targeted national webinar program will address shared challenges faced by show societies, helping to streamline problem‑solving and foster collaboration across regions.
In addition, ASA will host a National Conference in February 2027, themed “Stronger Together,” providing an important forum for networking, collective learning and sector-wide capability building.
Above all, the Strategic Plan reinforces ASA’s commitment to understanding and supporting the unique role of agricultural shows — community‑driven, volunteer-led events that honour tradition while embracing innovation. By strengthening the foundations of shows across the country, ASA aims to ensure these events remain vibrant, valued and sustainable for generations to come.
