The Agricultural Societies Council of NSW invited shows to participate in a visual display of the strength and solidarity of the agricultural show network.
This year 192 shows in NSW and their volunteers who make them happen and communities who enjoy them – have faced adversity. The vast majority have had to cancel their events and many incurred expenses in the process. Nonetheless, the network of volunteers, sponsors, attendees, and competitors is strong and supportive.
The ASC wanted to start a conversation about the value of local shows as well as connecting our show network through a simple campaign in October.
Shows were asked to create a No Show Scarecrow and place it prominently in their community through October.
We have seen many visual reminders across our state of the vibrant show spirit with colourful, creative displays. Shows have come together and acknowledged the show movement across NSW and Australia, acknowledged the cancellation of shows and shown solidarity and support for each other.
This has been a visual reminder that each show plays a vital role in regional and rural communities.
