Representing Western Australia: Hayden Baker (24)

Hayden is the Western Australia state finalist at the 2021 Agricultural Shows Australia National Young Judges finals held at the Royal Queensland Show. Agricultural Shows of Australia sat down with Hayden to learn a bit about his fascination with fleece.

I hail from Katanning in WA where I grew up in farming. Today I work for a wool broker as a wool and livestock buyer. I started getting involved with shows and showing while I was at agricultural college in Narrogin and continued to go to shows to help two studs show their sheep.

I started competing in young judges in 2014 to learn and have fun doing it, as well as to meet more people involved in the industry.
The main person to get me involved was Collin Batt from Wagin.
He was the sheep teacher at the college and is one of the main reasons I continue to go to shows. I continue  to help him with his studs today.
My favourite show in Australia is Wagin Woolarama because I get to catch up with a lot of people that I dont get to see very often.
My favourite show moment would probably be winning at the Perth Royal Show and getting to go to Tasmania in 2016 for merino sheep judging.
My most embarrassing show moment was getting dragged around down the lanes by an Ile de France ram!

Agricultural Shows Australia wishes Hayden all the best at the Ekka.
